Education and Community Engagement

We cultivate a “Preservation Ethic” in Routt County by sharing knowledge and appreciation of local history and cultural resources. HRC presents and sponsors programs, workshops, forums and tours, facilitates interpretation of historic sites with area museums; and partners with local groups to provide resources and guidance for historic preservation issues.

Workshops

Historic Routt County offers preservation workshops and forums, nomination workshops and one-on-one consultation for historic preservation.

Programs and Events

Historic Routt County offers several programs and events throughout the year, including exhibits periodically at local gathering places and forums and lectures with local community groups. HRC co-sponsors the Steamboat Springs downtown historical walking tours with the Tread of Pioneers Museum and co-presents guided historical hikes with Yampatika.

We also are an active partner with the Northwest Colorado Cultural Heritage Program and have made special efforts to keep our state legislators informed about our work.

Where in Routt County Photo Contest

Historic Routt County’s “Where in Routt County?” Photo Contest has become a popular feature in the Steamboat Pilot newspaper and engages the community while increasing the visibility, recognition and value of Routt County’s historic and cultural resources.

Readers guess the location of the structure depicted in the photo, and the first person to correctly identify the historic place wins a Historic Routt County license plate frame. If you know the answer to a photo you see in the paper or on the Steamboat Pilot Facebook page, just email the answer to emily@historicrouttcounty.org and see if you’re the prize winner!
